About Annie Smith
Growing up with two older brothers who worshipped cool Southern California surf and skate labels as her icons, Annie was intrigued by fashion at a young age. After years of cultivating her love for sewing and fashion design, Annie moved to New York City to pursue her career in fashion.
Annie has enjoyed exploring different roles within the industry. After working on the design team at Nanette Lepore, Annie worked for Rebecca Taylor both on the Soft Woven RTW design team and the Print and Embellishment design team. While her main focus and passion is fashion design, Annie has also freelanced in celebrity styling , in film wardrobe, and in graphic design. Annie loves various creative aspects of fashion, such as writing and creative directing. She hopes to gain experience in these many areas within fashion as her career unfolds.
Prior to gaining these professional experiences, Annie studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she earned her Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in women’s RTW/Sportswear while minoring in Art History. In her studies, Annie developed a well-rounded set of skills from draping, to patternmaking, to CAD programs, and more. Outside of her key courses, she enjoyed specialty classes in leather, swimwear, advanced digital illustration, entrepreneurship, and fashion history. Annie’s attention to detail and her eye for color, prints, and silhouette play an active role in her designs. When it comes to design, she has always had a love and talent for sourcing interesting, high-quality materials. Within her love for designing strong, wearable women’s wear, Annie is often inspired by music, film, art, and both vintage and modern culture. In addition to her rigorous course load, Annie balanced a street-style blogging internship with CollegeFashionsta.com and design internships with Nanette Lepore, Jill Stuart, and Prabal Gurung.
Outside of fashion, Annie also enjoys photography, film, drawing, teaching herself guitar, and exploring the city solo with a good playlist as company. Annie looks forward to advancing in the fashion industry so she can further develop and utilize her skills while working with like-minded creatives and dressing strong women.
